Generative Journalism Workshop

Hi all!

Passing this along as an exciting learning opportunity.

Generative Journalism Workshop

Description:

We cannot report our way to the future. We can, however, move beyond the current and dominant narrative and the patterns of existence it perpetuates.

This workshop series will introduce Generative Journalism as an art with the capacity to give birth to something new, to midwife and even create new life.

If you would like to catalyze a new narrative, one that cultivates life and possibility, this workshop series might be for you.

If so, we'd love for you to join us for this series of four, 2-hour long, participatory and experiential workshops on:

Wednesdays, May 10, 17, 24, 31
3:00-5:00 EDT / 1:00-2:00 MDT

In the course of this series we'll traverse ground including:

  • Weaving: A Very Neat Trick
  • Foundational Premises of Generative Journalism
  • Freeing a Few Sacred Cows: Objectivity, Two Sides of Every Story, Multi-Sourcing, Institutionalized Narratives, Editors
  • Possibility Orientation
  • Narrative Inquiry and Emergence
  • Primacy of Direct Experience
  • Presence, Inquiry, Reflection, Weaving, Sensing
  • A Sprinkling of Relational Presencing
  • Power and Importance of Provocative Questions
  • The Art of the Open Questions
  • Whose Story Is This? A Question of Authenticity and Ownership
  • Easy Ways to Start
  • You've Probably Already Started

Every conversation we have together during this series will lead to all of the others. We will sense together what is most alive in the room and follow the energy from session to session.

By the end of the series you will have inverted some of your thinking, experienced refreshing practices, begun journeys, found friends, and started unfolding a new story.

Workshop Series Lead Peter Pula has been engaged in Generative Journalism since 1991, long before the term was coined. He and his colleagues at Axiom News coined the term and refined the practice of Generative Journalism in over thirty settings. He has a rich collection of stories reflecting the effects of Generative Journalism in peoples’ lives as well as on policy-level decision making.
