Our communities are making great strides in designing age-friendly environments. But how can targeted nudges empower individuals to overcome barriers and experience joyful, dignified aging in their chosen homes?
Join us for our next broadcast, where we delve into national and local initiatives that promote longevity, fostering ideal conditions for aging in place. But more importantly, we will explore the specific nudges and behavioral strategies older adults need to surmount the barriers and empower individuals to relish the joy and dignity of aging in place.
Renowned authors Thaler and Sunstein define a nudge as "an indirect suggestion or subtle reminder intended to influence people's behavior." Nudging isn't just part of #StrategicDoing; it's woven into our everyday lives, often unnoticed. We're nudged to break habits, establish new ones, and boost productivity. A few examples: π Every January, we're nudged to set resolutions for self-improvement. β Your iWatch gently reminds you to take a brisk walk at 10:30pm. π‘ Electric companies nudge us toward energy efficiency by comparing our consumption with efficient neighbors.
To age joyfully and successfully in our homes and communities, we must conquer individual and community-level obstacles, such as: community resources, accessibility to healthcare, mobility and accessibility, social Isolation, financial concerns of home modifications, safety and security, cognitive decline, family and caregiver support, emotional adjustment, legal and financial planning, transportation and home maintenance.
Join The Active Aging Ideation Lab as we explore the specific nudges and behavioral strategies needed to surmount these barriers and empower individuals to relish the joy and dignity of aging in place.
